Getting Here and Around

Motorists can either take the Yarra Valley route, turn off at Lilydale, and head south to Montrose and on to Olinda, or take the South Eastern Freeway or M1 (a toll applies) and exit at Ferntree Gully Road. From there, take the Mt. Dandenong Tourist Road and follow it to Olinda, arriving from the south. Trains travel from Flinders Street Station to Belgrave on the Belgrave line. This town is on the southern edge of the Dandenongs and is the home of the steam train called Puffing Billy. Other towns on the same railway line are Ferntree Gully and Upper Ferntree Gully.

Bus 688 runs from Upper Ferntree Gully Station through the trees to Sassafras and Olinda, then passes William Ricketts Sanctuary; while Bus 694 links Belgrave Station to the Mt. Dandenong Lookout, via the villages of Sherbrooke, Sassafras, and Olinda. Alternatively, take the train from Flinders Street Station to Croydon (on the Lilydale line), then take the 688 bus south to William Ricketts Sanctuary and Olinda.
