Strahan

TRAVEL GUIDE

This lovely, lazy fishing port, once a major stop for mining companies, has one of the deepest harbors in the world. The brown color that sometimes appears on the shoreline isn't pollution, but naturally occurring tannin from the surrounding vegetation. The town, which has a population of fewer than 750, sits on the edge of Macquarie Harbour, and mixes a still-active fishing industry with tourism. The foreshore walking track gives an excellent view of the Strahan area. Don't overlook the short, easy trail from the foreshore through the Rain forest to Hogarth Falls.
