Fodor's Expert Review The Manse
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Tailcoats were de rigueur dinner attire when this Victorian church manse was built in the heart of North Adelaide, but the dress code for the modern French gem it houses now is thankfully more relaxed. Continental cuisine, such as the Storm Bay Salmon with sugared cereals and popcorn, apples, and soft herb cream, is prepared with flair, and special effort is made to add local ingredients to classic and contemporary dishes (try the South Australian Blue Crab with corn cream, onion consomme, and watercress). There is a degustation menu in case you can't choose. Wood-burning fireplaces and an outdoor terrace make dining a pleasure any time of year. The Australian newspaper recently picked this place as their fine-dining restaurant of the year. The same family also owns the trendy Sparrow Kitchen and Bar at 10 O'Connell Street, North Adelaide, and—new in 2011—Grace the Establishment on the Parade, Norwood.
