Fodor's Expert Review Long Island Resort

Long Island, Long Island, Queensland, 4802, Australia

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

A short walk over the hill from Palm Bay, this family-focused resort is big on outdoor activities, particularly water sports and group-oriented fun. The free kids' club is adjourned in periods of low demand (especially in low season), which means there can be lots of little ones running around. Nighttime entertainment includes karaoke, live music, beach parties, trivia and casino nights, and energetic games. Guests in air-conditioned beachfront and garden-view rooms have their own balconies and extra conveniences—TV, phone, fridge, Internet access—and can buy packages that include breakfast or three daily buffet-style meals (plus à la carte options at dinner). Guests in fan-cooled budget lodge rooms share bathrooms and fend for themselves in the communal kitchen. There's also a day spa, open in peak periods (check ahead), and two pools, one with a swim-up bar. The island and resort are easily accessed from Hamilton Island or Shute Harbour via ferry or launch, making it a good base for island-hopping.
