Fodor's Expert Review Lindeman Island resort

Australia

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

This three-story, palm-tree-filled resort, Australia's only Club Med, sits on 1,750 acres on the southern end of the island; rooms are sparsely furnished, as is customary at Club Med (poolside rooms and those with hot tubs cost more). All overlook the sea, bordering the beach or pool, and each has a balcony or patio. Various packages—there's no minimum, but the resort recommends you stay four days or more—include accommodation, buffet-style dining, an "open bar and snacking service" (free wine and beverages with meals and at designated periods during the day), along with evening entertainment of varying quality and a range of outdoor activities like the trademark flying trapeze school, fitness classes, tennis, basketball, sailing, sea-kayaking, and swimming. You'll pay extra for spa treatments, motorized water sports, and offshore excursions, such as reef trips and excursions to Dent Island's 18-hole golf course (a 35-minute transfer each way from Lindeman). There's also a golf school with a putting green, instruction and a scenic 9-hole course attached to the resort. Kids' clubs operate all day and again after dinner but teens, especially, may be bored at the repetition outside of school holiday periods.
