Fodor's Expert Review Bécasse

$$$ Sydney City Center French

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Sydney's darling chef Justin North has not only relocated Bécasse to the heart of Sydney but embraced the entire gastromic experience with a new venture on the fifth level of Sydney's newly revitalized Westfield Shopping Centre. Although fine food and shopping malls don't usually go hand-in-hand, North has turned this theory on its head. Bécasse has been slimmed down to an elegant 25-seat restaurant with an 8-seat chef's table and placed adjacent to North and wife Georgina's new food emporium, cooking school, Bécasse Bakery, and another casual-style eatery called Quarter 21. Diners who the express elevator on Pitt Street up to the fifth floor will notice that prices have gone up, too. Dinner is now a three-course à la carte menu ($120), a five-course degustation ($150) or a nine-course degusation ($190) with matching wines at extra cost. Starters may include an exotic dish of spanner crab, chamomile and custard apple, crab jelly and expect to see Blackmore wagyu, white asparagus, nameko, and ginger as a main
