American Samoa is a safe destination; however, it's still wise to be vigilant at night and not to venture alone in poorly lit or quiet areas. The hurricane season is from November to April, and as recently as 2009 American Samoa was hit by a devastating tsunami. Wear reef shoes when swimming at coral beaches, and pack sunscreen and tropical-strength insect repellant.
