Danang Beach

Nicknamed "China Beach" by U.S. and Australian troops during the war, Danang Beach stretches for over 30 km (18 miles), and encompasses several smaller beaches, including My Khe, which runs parallel to Danang City and Bac My An. To the north, scores of glitzy Vietnamese seafood restaurants and karaoke bars act as a magnet for nouveau-riche Vietnamese and visiting businessmen. Amble south and you hit rows of humble seafood shacks and Danang’s public beach, a wide, white, sandy stretch that is almost always deserted during the daytime. Accommodations along My Khe were once limited to dilapidated government-run hotels, but as with the rest of the city, huge redevelopment is in progress and luxury resorts are quickly popping up in their place. To the south of My Khe, Bac My An has the highest concentration of luxury beach resorts in the area (as well as the city’s first casino resort). The tranquil, palm-fringed beaches here attract an international crowd and offer wraparound views of the bay. At the Marble Mountains is Non Nuoc, a quaint sculpture village that spills out onto 4 km (2 miles) of breathtaking beaches, luxury resorts, and golf courses.
