Fodor's Expert Review Vinh Hung Heritage Hotel
143 Tran Phu St., Hoi An, Quang Nam, Vietnam Fodor's Choice
Made famous for providing Michael Caine with a dressing room (the decadent Suite 208) during the filming of The Quiet American, this charming 200-year-old timber merchant house has the best address in the city: right in the heart of the Old Town. Six lantern-lit rooms decked out in antiques, Chinese antiquities, and opulent silks offer atmospheric museum appeal; and while the hotel is rightly proud of their two heritage suites, the best in house are actually the cheaper suites looking out over the internal courtyard.
Cars are banned from the Old Town area, so arrange ahead for luggage transfers.
PROS
- complimentary use of sister hotel (the Vinh Hung Resort) pool
- the central Old Town location
- welcoming staff
CONS
- heritage suites with front-facing balconies are noisy
- dark rooms
- bathrooms could be improved
