Air Travel

There are three airports in the Mekong Delta—in Can Tho, Ca Mau, and on Phu Quoc Island. A taxi from any of the three to your hotel will be around 100,000d. Regular flights from Hanoi and Danang arrive at the Can Tho International Airport, 9 km (5½ miles) from the city center. VietJet and Vietnam Airlines fly to this airport, which only really becomes international when chartered flights arrive, usually during Tet. Round-trip fares start at $41 from Danang and $70 from Hanoi. Ca Mau Airport is about 3 km (2 miles) from the center of Ca Mau. Vietnam Aviation Service Company (VASCO) operates one flight a day each way between Ho Chi Minh City and Ca Mau. Round-trip airfare starts at around $188.

Phu Quoc International Airport, 10 km (6 miles) from the main town of Duong Dong, opened in 2012 and is now Vietnam's fifth busiest airport. Direct flights arrive regularly from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Singapore, and Siem Reap in Cambodia. VASCO operates daily flights between Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City, and Can Tho, and flies between Hanoi and Phu Quoc four times a week. Vietnam Airlines operates daily flights to and from Hanoi, two flights a week to and from Singapore, and three flights a week to and from Siem Reap. Jetstar Pacific operates daily flights to and from Ho Chi Minh City. Airfares can be quite reasonable, especially if you snag a promotional deal. Most resorts have an airport transfer service, and taxis and xe om drivers meet scheduled flights.
