Ho Chi Minh City was built for bicycles, though the sheer volume of motor traffic these days can make cycling a challenge. But once you work out how the traffic flows, cycling can be an enjoyable way to get around, especially if you want to explore some of the quieter reaches of the city. Consider a half- or full-day bicycle tour to get started. Bicycles can be rented from several shops, all outside the central business area, for about 300,000d a day, with the per-day rate dropping for weekly rentals. You can also rent panniers and racks. Saigon Cycles is in District 7, about 20 minutes by taxi from downtown, and this newer district has some cycling trails that are an easy introduction to pedaling in the city. Similarly, The Bike Shop, in District 2, is in a quiet location well suited to cycling, but try to avoid school drop-off and pickup times.
