Halong Bay and Around Restaurants

Halong City, the launching point for Halong Bay, is not known as the place to come for fine cuisine. In fact, you might be better off suppressing your appetite until you dine aboard ship. However, since the opening of the Sunworld theme park, a string of coffee shops, bars, and restaurants has sprung up along the coast. If you want to try something local, tu hai is a shellfish specialty from Van Don Island. Other Halong dishes include dried shrimp, steamed cuttlefish, sea snails, and gat gu (steamed pancake made from rice flour). On the other side of the bridge, make sure to hit up Wander Station after visiting the Quang Ninh museum.

Trung and Linda Nguyen accomplished a dream by opening this excellent restaurant and coffee shop across the river from Bai Chay in Hong Gai. The couple purchases their beans from the mountainous Dalat and roasts them on-site. Their big goal is to improve coffee culture in the city and show Vietnam how other countries drink coffee. The staff loves to help travelers discover the area.
