Holland Village, Dempsy Hill, and the Botanic Garden

Holland Village is Singapore’s best-known expat district, with many terrace homes remaining from the British Army before World War II. Along with the nearby Botanic Gardens and Dempsey Hill, this part of the city is filled with a wide selection of modern restaurants and bars.Dempsey Hill first served as British Army barracks, and then as a local military base. These days it’s a refurbished enclave filled with tropical trees and hosts some of the city’s restaurants, cafés, galleries, and furniture shops, many of them in restored "black-and-whites," 19th-century colonial houses with a decided Arts and Crafts influence.
