Intrepid travelers heading to Myanmar will soon have a new luxury lodging option when Kempinski opens the doors of its first property there, Kempinski Hotel Nay Pyi Taw. Located in Myanmar’s capital, the 141-room and -suite hotel will begin welcoming guests on November 1, 2014. To celebrate the opening, Kempinski is offering an introductory rate (from $180) on its Premier suites through December 31. (Room bookings can now be made at kempinski.com.)
The opening of a property by Kempinski, Europe’s oldest luxury hotel group, cements Myanmar’s status as a rising destination, one that will surely attract more and more travelers in the years to come. While many first-time visitors travel to Yangon, this property is located in the country’s less-visited capital. In an official press release, Frank Droin, the hotel’s general manager, addressed the company's choice to open a property in the capital by saying, “We are confident that Nay Pyi Taw will soon be a popular destination with international leisure and business travelers seeking a relaxing alternative to Yangon.”
Spread across four villas, the hotel features a design inspired by local heritage, with an emphasis on native arts, crafts, and furnishings found throughout the property. Hotel guests will have access to five restaurants and bars, as well as an outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, and fitness center; an on-site spa will open in 2015. With its extensive gardens, Kempinski Hotel Nay Pyi Taw aims to be a tranquil place for guests. But getting out and seeing the sights won’t be a problem thanks to the hotel’s fleet of BMWs, which will shuttle guests to nearby attractions like the Bagan temple complex, Inle Lake, Mount Popa, and the Poe Kyar elephant camp.
