Fodor's Expert Review Talat Sao
To immerse yourself in Vientiane, visit this vast indoor bazaar that despite its name stays open all day. Shops within the bright and orderly space sell everything from handwoven fabrics and wooden Buddha figures to electric rice cookers and sneakers. Most vendors cater to locals, but there is plenty to interest travelers: fabric, handicrafts, intricate gold-and-silver work, jewelry, T-shirts, and bags and suitcases. Many products are imported from abroad. Fruits, confections, and noodle soups are sold at open-door stalls outside, where Vietnamese shoemakers also ply their trade. Near the main post office, the market is inside a large department store, Laos's first, and spills out into the surrounding area.
