Fodor's Expert Review Kura
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
For a surprisingly small number of yen you can feast in this 90-year-old Meiji-era warehouse in the center of town. Kura serves a large assortment of sushi and traditional dishes: the aji tataki (horse-mackerel sashimi) and tempura are particularly tasty. The stoic owner expertly prepares your meal, but should his wife spot you relishing the food, you're in for some disarming hospitality—she has an arsenal of potent ji-zake (locally brewed sake) and a heart of gold. From the station, take a left onto Koen-dori. Take a left after the Parco department store, and you'll see the restaurant's whitewashed facade and curved black eaves on the left.
