Nibutani

Nibutani is one of the last places in Hokkaido with a sizable Ainu population—or at least part Ainu, as few pure-blooded Ainu are left. The tiny village, which is nothing more than some scattered homes along a main road, has two museums and a handful of souvenir shops. It's a very long day trip from Sapporo, and if you have toured native people's centers in North America it may feel like more of the same, but it is where you can find the best, non-touristy collection of Ainu art and artifacts in Hokkaido.
