Fodor's Expert Review Chez Nini

The French-Canadian brasserie, run by a Quebecoise with Punjabi ancestry, sits at the center of a collection of excellent little cafés and restaurants—but it's still the best. They’re known for their pork belly, cured and roasted over seven days—order it only if you’re hungry, because it's quite filling. Another special is the chicken in a pot, with perfectly baked flaky pastry, and the perfect mix of herbs flavoring the chicken. Always ask about the day’s specials; the beef in a pot, when available, is the best dish here. Chez Nini is also one of the best places to eat brunch, with a fixed-frice menu with all the usual suspects, as well as smoked mackerel rillettes and an open-face ratatouille sandwich on challah bread.
