South Delhi, the older suburbs and colonies of the new city, has monuments even older than those in Old Delhi, including the Qutub Minar, Kauz Khas, and numerous pre-Mughal tombs, some of which lie abandoned in the midst of contemporary houses and apartments.
Along with a mix of government-built apartments, posh mansions and "farmhouses" of the elite, and refugee colonies from the 1950s, South Delhi also has the more recent addition of malls, particularly in Saket and Vasant Kunj. There is also plenty of soul and tradition. Getting in some quiet meditation at the Lotus Temple is a must. The incredible urbanized villages of Hauz Khas and Shahpur Jat may turn up anything from vintage Bollywood posters to beautifully beaded slippers. Visit Nizamuddin East for a sufi music performance that may transport you to a spiritual plane. Most destinations in South Delhi are now accessible by the Delhi Metro, including its wealth of restaurant and bars, many of which are packed on weekends.
