When to Go

Chengdu and eastern Sichuan are hot and humid, with temperatures of 35°F to 50°F in winter and 75°F to 85°F in summer. Chongqing, known as one of China’s Three Furnaces, is infamous for its broiling summer temperatures—sometimes over 100°F. The western plateau is cold but intensely sunny (bring sunscreen and sunglasses). In winter temperatures drop to –15°F. Summers are around 65°F.
