Over the past few years, the hotel scene in Guangzhou and Shenzhen has grown rapidly, with local hotels providing reasonably priced lodgings and international chains dominating the high end of the market. English is now spoken by at least a few staff at many mid-priced hotels, and at luxury hotels the staff often speak English well.
