Fodor's Expert Review Pedder Building

Central

Dwarfed by flashy skyscrapers, the Pedder Building is one of Hong Kong's few remaining true neoclassical-style buildings. Once known for its discounted designer outlets and eclectic tenants, the elegant stone construction reinvented itself with a host of new faces after renovations in 2012. Though several shops kept their coveted spots—Bumps to Babes and swanky haberdasher Armoury, to name a few—the Pedder Building seems to have a voracious appetite for art galleries and exhibition spaces. Ben Brown Fine Arts and Gagosian Gallery survived the transition, joined quickly by Simon Lee, Pearl Lam, and Hanart TZ, with more to come. If you need a break from all the abstract images, new-media installations, and inevitable head scratching, sneak away to Burgundy Etc (a top-end wine retailer) or the Pacific Cigar Company smoking lounge on the fourth floor.
