Like all the great luxury properties, the Upper House takes care of guests’ every need. From the fabricsand materials in the rooms to the personal service at every turn, considered luxury runs throughout the hotel. Forget the lack of pool or spa, guests come for the spacious privacy of the amazing rooms.

Fodor's Expert Review

Designed by architect Andre Fu, the Upper House is one of Hong Kong’s swankiest luxury boutique hotels, a property filled with exceptional attention to detail throughout its 117 rooms. Located above the Pacific Plaza Mall—and all the designer branded boutiques that come with it—the hotel is conveniently placed close to Central in an exclusive enclave of luxe hotels that include the Conrad, Island Shangri-La and the JW Marriott.

You Should Know While the hotel is exclusive (and super expensive) the overall vibe of the rooms is homeliness, so no surprise it appeals to international celebrities.

Room

At 70 square meters as standard, basic rooms at the Upper House are in fact Studios. And if guests want a larger space than the Studio affords, they can upgrade to the Upper Suites and Penthouse for a palatial residence. Muted greys, mellow blonde bamboo and opulent fabrics are standard to all rooms, many of which have incredible views over the Harbour.

Bathroom

Since the hotel has no pool or spa, it’s just as well the bathrooms come with a spa-like wow factor. Grand, marble tubs look out over the skyline through floor to ceiling windows, while double vanities, large mirrors and marble showers complete the experience.

Tip Spa services are available in-room to guests.

Lobby

Taking over the top floors of the JW Marriott hotel building, the Upper House lobby greets you on the ground floor and sends you up a dramatic escalator edged with dim, flickering lights to lifts which lead to the hotel’s floors. Chic staff are on hand to lead you to your room where check-in is performed in discreet privacy.

Gym

A well-equipped gym comes with views towards the Peak. Yoga on the hotel’s very own lawn is a regular morning occurrence in spring and summer.

Dining

Café Gray Deluxe serves a fine dining menu that focuses on seasonal ingredients under the stewardship of renowned chef Gray Kunz. Expect to share the restaurant with a blend of carefree Hong Kong socialites, businessman in double-breasted suits and manicured movie stars (and movie star wannabes).

Drinking

On any given evening, chances are Cafe Gray Bar represents one of the most exclusive spots for cocktails in the city. While its rooms are out of the price range of many, the bar is a treat for the aspirational cocktail drinker. It’s a see and be seen type of place, so dress sharp.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Locked into a cluster of luxury hotels each attached to the Pacific Place Mall, the Upper House is in good company. For shopping, you needn’t look beyond the designer brands that line the levels of the mall. Taxis are a quick and convenient way to get about from the hotel or you can be on a train at Admiralty MTR within 10 minutes.

Restaurants

When you’re used to dining daily in Café Gray Deluxe the only places to turn to are the series of hotel restaurants within a stone’s throw of the Upper House. Take the short hop trough the mall to Island Shangri-La and drink and dine in the Lobster Bar & Grill (5-minute walk) for a more informal culinary experience. Or, visit Golden Leaf (2-minute walk) at the Conrad and dine on classic Cantonese dishes embellished with an innovative approach.

Bars

If you want to stay close, there’s nowhere closer than Bar Q88 (2-minute walk) in the JW Marriott Hotel in the same building. The bar is a classy spot with a long marble counter calling you for martinis. Alternatively, leave behind the world of hotel drinking and dining and go to J Boroski (4-minute drive), a cocktail bar in Central that’s no less swanky and sophisticated than the Upper House’s own options.
