Why We Like It

Budget hotels with rooms that don’t feel like the walls are caving in on you can be hard to find in Hong Kong, which makes Novotel Century Hong Kong a property worth recommending. The pool is a huge bonus and the lobby-cum-workspace creates a warm welcome.

Room

Not quite as small as some Hong Kong hotel rooms but far from what you might call large, the standard rooms at least come with a writing desk that runs the length of the window and offers plenty of elbow room should you need to get down to business. Comfortable and clean, they are perfectly adequate as a city base should a lack of star quality not be an issue for you.

Bathroom

Bathrooms come with walk-in showers and clean, white tiled interiors. Proper sliding doors provide genuine privacy.

You Should Know The water pressure in our standard room left a lot to be desired.

Lobby

While the corridors are wound tight and packed with rooms, the lobby provides space to breathe and guests are encouraged to linger there, and in fact, many do. Sofas and chairs are taken by guests wielding laptops, which lends the space a communal feel.

Pool

The outdoor pool is a real bonus amidst the often-exhausting pace of Wan Chai, making the poolside the place to head when you’re at a loose end.

Dining

Choose form Pepino for Italian cuisine or the more classic Hong Kong experience of buffet lunch and dinner at La Café. Guests receive a small discount on restaurant bills when they show their room key.

Drinking

A four-hour happy hour runs from 5-9pm at AK’s Bar and Lounge, the sweet mezzanine spot that looks onto the lobby.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The hotel has an enviable Wan Chai location, which means getting up and down Hong Kong Island is easy. If you want to ride the MTR further afield then Wan Chai station is a 7-minute walk away on Hennessy Road.

Restaurants

In Wan Chai, you’re in an area particularly flooded with great places to eat. A solid place to start is Kam’s Roast Goose (5-minute walk) for, what else but roast goose. It’s a busy spot but well worth waiting for a table. If you fancy a Western joint a little further afield, Three Blind Mice (13-minute walk) offers an intimate evening with a solid menu and friendly staff on Ship Street.

Bars

On your way to Three Blind Mice you’ll more than likely pass a large group of people drinking on the street of the quiet cul-de-sac at the end of Ship Street, in which case you’ve found Thaiwan (13-minute walk), a lively bar with an international clientele. Equally as lively is Djapa (12-minute walk), a Brazilian whisky bar with a colorful favela theme going on.
