Bus Travel

With many thousands of destinations and departures, buses can be handy for short trips, especially to destinations outside the high-speed rail network (Nanjing to Yangzhou is a good example). Buses are usually in reasonable condition and have air-conditioning, assigned seating, and reliably punctual service. Remember to bring a pair of headphones, as you can usually expect a noisy kung-fu movie playing on the video monitor. Never patronize the army of touts who work at the main bus stations; always buy your tickets from the official counters or better yet, through your hotel.
