Metro

Twenty-eight billion dirhams have been set aside to build the Dubai Metro system and, although already very effective, remains in production at this writing. There are 43 miles of track spread over two lines between 47 stations. The Red Line runs from the Rashidiya district in the north, past the Dubai International Airport and through to Jebel Ali in the south, running parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road. The Green Line offers travel through the downtown Deira and Bur Dubai districts, connecting with the red line at two points. Extensions are underway on both these lines, and further lines are also in development.

Metro travel is reasonably priced, fast, safe, and clean. There are two classes, and a carriage reserved for ladies and children. The only downsides to metro travel are the crowds in peak times, and at this stage, limited service to some areas of Dubai. Most stations are central, but will require a walk, bus journey, or taxi ride to reach nearby sights and hotels.
