Diving and Snorkeling

Scuba diving and snorkeling are very popular in Dubai; the water is warm enough to swim without a wetsuit, and some of the sites are easily accessed off-shore. Dive quality in Dubai is variable. Algal blooms in warm weather, construction debris, and shallow water can all contribute to low visibility. There is, however, an abundance of highly experienced dive operators, so you're likely to get good advice on where the best seasonal spots are. There are a number of wreck sites and artificial reefs in relatively shallow waters between 32 feet and 100 feet below. The main species seen on dives are turtles, eels, octopus, snapper, and parrotfish, with more occasional large pelagic species like rays and sharks.

The best diving in the region is around the horn of the Gulf at Musandam in Omani waters, or straight across the Hajar mountains to the Indian ocean by Fujeirah, but this involves a full day trip from Dubai by boat to travel, dive, and then return in the evening.
