Fodor's Expert Review The Lawns

$$ Kampala African

The only restaurant in Kampala with a license to serve game, the Lawns is about the closest Uganda has to the legendary carnivore experience enjoyed by Kenyan safari-goers (S). Unashamedly celebrating the wildest cuts of meat, with dishes like ostrich burgers, smoked kudu steak or whole crocodile tail (preorder 2–3 hours), this barn-size venue is not for vegetarians. Order the tasting platter to sample four different exotic meats, and cocktail-lovers should check out the lengthy list of martini recipes. More domesticated grilled meats are available for traditionalists. Happy hour runs weekdays 5–7; and a live band plays every Saturday night. Sunday is unique for the live grill experience, where meat is carved table-side. All game is sourced legally from registered South African game ranches, and don't be put off by the wild rabbits nibbling the gardens, they're strictly pets and not for the pot.
