Fodor's Expert Review Baker's Lodge

Murchison Falls National Park, Western Region, Uganda Fodor's Choice

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

Located in a grove of Kigelia (aka sausage trees) at the water's edge, Baker's Lodge has 180-degree views of the Nile. Baker's Lodge is in a league of its own, with beautifully finished en suite tents, hardwood floors, bathtubs overlooking the river, retro ceiling fans, and authentic traditional African accents throughout. Food, which is as fabulous as the location, is served under the giant thatch, on the expansive wooden decking, or even under a tree. The eco-friendly property has its own boat operations, making it the perfect base for its popular launch cruises upstream to the Murchison Falls. This simple act feels remarkably glamorous, reminiscent of the way early explorers, such as the camp's namesake, Samuel Baker, would have experienced this area. In fact, a perfect day at Baker's starts with an early morning boat ride to the Delta, followed by a bush breakfast on the North Bank, and then a game drive through the park back to the lodge; all of this requires advance booking.
