Fodor's Expert Review Oep ve Koep
Don't be fooled by the appearance of this tiny rustic bistro with a retro garden area. If you're looking for sensational cuisine, Oep ve Koep is the place to go. The chef-owner, Kobus van der Merwe, creates innovative, smart, and scrumptious dishes from traditional recipes. Local veldkos (foraged plants such as wild spinach and succulents) are incorporated into dishes. Oep ve Koep offers a limited menu, so fussy eaters beware. Those willing to take the plunge will not be disappointed, with dishes like pickled whitefish with grapefruit, and West Coast oysters with wild coastal herbs and seaweed flying out of the kitchen. Sunday lunch is a two- or three-course set menu of veldkos and seafood. Expect to pay around R250 per person. Bookings are essential, as Kobus opens the restaurant only on request.
