Fodor's Expert Review Mediterrea Seafood Restaurant
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
You can't go wrong with excellent food and sweeping bay views, and Mediterrea regulars know to ask for a window seat. In whale season you can hear the giants blow just below you. The restaurant's owner is Greek and together with the chef strives to combine the best of Mediterranean cuisine with all that South African food has to offer. Favorite starters include baby calamari tubes flamed with vodka, capsicums, and fresh herbs and served on tsatsiki (Greek-style yogurt-cucumber-garlic dip), and prawns lemoni—tiger prawns simmered in a heavenly, creamy, garlic sauce and served with lightly toasted Mediterranean bread. For a main course, the lamb stuffed with garlic, rosemary, and apricots and slow-roasted in red wine and fresh herbs is out of this world, as are the medallions of ostrich fillet topped with a sweet-onion-and-chili marmalade. Or you could go straight for the ice-cream halvah (layers of phyllo and vanilla ice cream infused with pistachio halvah and drizzled with honey).
