Fodor's Expert Review Coachman Guesthouse
14 Drostdy St., Swellendam, Western Cape, 6740, South Africa
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Dating to the 18th century and declared a national monument in 1983, this guesthouse is in the historic heart of Swellendam, within easy walking distance of all the major sights and restaurants. A lovely garden surrounds the house; the rooms have entrances that open onto a courtyard, and two thatch garden cottages have their own verandas and great views over the Langeberg Mountains. Rooms are charmingly furnished with brass beds and comfortable throws. The pool is an absolute necessity in summer, when temperatures soar.
PROS
- tranquil and secluded for a real getaway
- children are welcome
