Fodor's Expert Review Kurland
The Crags, Western Cape, South Africa Fodor's Choice
On the road to Tsitsikamma, this magnificent 1,500-acre estate offers spacious guest suites that make you feel like you're staying in your own country home. The estate is centered on a lovely historic Cape Dutch homestead that was once the home of a White Russian emigreé, Baron Peter Behr, back in the 1940s. Accommodations are in separate buildings, and feature huge bathrooms, antique furniture, book-filled shelves, fireplaces, and private balconies. Ten rooms have staircases leading to charming children's attic rooms. The food in the restaurant ($$$$) is exactly what you might expect: delicious, beautifully presented, and made from fresh, local ingredients. Mountain bikes and pony rides are available.
