Fodor's Expert Review Singita Lebombo Lodge

Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga, South Africa

Named for the nearby Lebombo mountain range, the breathtakingly beautiful Singita Lebombo—winner of numerous international accolades and eco-driven in concept—is Bauhaus in the bush, with a uniquely African feel. Built "to touch the ground lightly", the lodge hangs seemingly suspended on the edge of a cliff, and wooden walkways connect the aptly named "lofts" (suites), which you'll never want to leave, so gorgeous and comfortable are they, with spectacular views of the river and bushveld below. Outdoor and indoor areas fuse seamlessly. Organic materials—wood, cane, cotton, and linen—are daringly juxtaposed with steel and glass. Service and food are superb.

PROS

  • stunning avant-garde architecture
  • excellent game
