Fodor's Expert Review MuseuMAfricA
City Center
Museum/Gallery
Founded in 1935, this was the first major museum to acknowledge black contributions to the city's development. The museum, which is in the city's block-long former fruit and vegetable market, houses geological specimens, paintings, African artifacts, costumes, and photographs relating to South Africa's complex history. Another display illustrates the life of Mahatma Gandhi, who once lived in Jo'burg.
