Fodor's Expert Review Tuningi Safari Lodge

Madikwe Game Reserve, North-West, South Africa

A 300 year-old fig tree dominates the the ultraluxurious Tuningi Lodge overlooking a busy water hole that will keep you entranced all day. In winter especially this water hole is a pachyderm Times Square, with elephants coming and going all day and night. The lodge is themed around African-colonial chic with a huge comfortable lounge overlooking the pool. Your spacious villa decorated in earth tones with lots of wood everywhere has a king-size bed, a bathroom with a sunken bath, and an open fireplace (wonderful in winter). Tuningi is child-friendly and has special children's programs. If you want some quiet time, dedicated rangers and staff will take care of the kids and if you're traveling with family or in a small group seeking privacy, then the family unit of Little Tuningi fits the bill.
