From the British perspective the Battle of Rorke’s Drift was the most glorious battle of the Anglo-Zulu War, all the more so because it took place just hours after the British humiliation at Isandlwana on January 22, 1879. For 12 hours, a British force numbering just 140 men, many of them wounded in the previous battle, fought off and ultimately repelled more than 3,000 Zulu warriors. The 1964 movie Zulu brought the story to the masses.
