In the bright and airy Simon's Town home of much-loved local chef Bruce Robertson, the delightful five-course sea- and farm-to-table lunch served here is a bit of delectable culinary theater. The experience is based on Chef Bruce's foraging of seafood and other ingredients from veggies to seaweed to cheeses, all from no more than 20 km (12 miles) away. Seated at beautifully laid communal tables with other diners, you will be treated to stories about each course, which could include snoek pie with sea urchin eggs and seawort asparagus on a bed of rice noodles topped with kapenta sardines, or a panfried angelfish on spirulina risotto with sea watercress. Wine pairings are excellent and generous, and the setup encourages conviviality. Uninterrupted views of False Bay are also a draw. Just half an hour from the Cape Point nature reserve, it's a perfect cap to a half day on the peninsula. If you really want to make an afternoon of it, stay overnight in one of the four pleasant rooms downstairs and enjoy a fabulous gourment breakfast the next day.
