Fodor's Expert Review Birds
This charming and centrally located café draws diners with simple but exquisitely rendered food in a soothing setting of exposed brick and blond wood on otherwise busy Bree Street. Menus change regularly, but the chicken pie shaped like an egg is legendary, and flavorful salads like the "bird's nest" with its poached egg, broccoli, mushrooms, and toasted pine nuts leave you full but feeling healthy. Dinners are all understated extravagance with dishes like duck confit with a miso-plum glaze, or octopus with saffron potatoes, tamarind, and basil. Everything is made daily and written up on the chalkboard menu. A large selection of sugar-free and wheat-free items, great coffee and teas, and amazing baked goods complete the picture.
