Fodor's Expert Review
In Afrikaans, welgelegen means "well situated," and this classy boutique hotel in two beautifully restored Victorian mansions is just that: nestled under Table Mountain in a quiet street just minutes away from city attractions. The area feels safe and you can easily walk to trendy Kloof Street or get a quick Uber to the CBD. All the rooms are individually decorated and cozy. The pretty courtyard and the gorgeous old library are great places to relax after a busy day.

Room
Rooms are stylish and comfortable, with a mixture of African chic and romantic whimsy, with low-key beige as the base. There are a few different classes--the smaller rooms have queen or double beds, the larger have king-size. Some have balconies.
Tip Room 14 has its own private terrace, with a little pond. Room 7 has a view of Table Mountain. We could go on... have a chat with the staff when booking to find out which room might suit you best.
Bathroom
Toiletries are by the eco-friendly, 100% natural Healing Earth range. The deluxe room has an open-plan travertine bath (with shower), which might appeal to couples but would probably intimidate any but the closest of friends! The other room classes have light, airy private bathrooms.
Lobby
Arriving at Welgelegen feels like coming up the steps to a friend's home. Staff are helpful and friendly but never intrusive.
Pool
The hotel has a small outdoor pool in the courtyard, nicely-lit at night.
You Should Know While it is cute, the pool is pretty much only a plunge pool - there's not really room for any serious swimming here.
Spa
There's no spa, but on-site spa treatments are available.
Dining
The hotel breakfast is delicious and cooked to order, with cookies and other snacks, drinks and little extras available through the day, too.
Drinking
There's an honesty bar for guests.

Restaurants
The famous, popular Black Sheep (2-minute walk) is close, and has a cool, laidback vibe and a daily changing menu. Cafe Paradiso (2-minute walk) - almost next door - is another good option for couples and families alike, with a garden and views of Table Mountain.
