Why We Like It

A cool hotel with great service and a resort-like vibe, The Glen's team really try to make sure its young, trendy guests enjoy their stay. A cool choice in a perhaps slightly unusual location - more for those who want to try out what life in Cape Town is really like than people who want to be at the heart of the city center or by the best swimming beaches (although there are still sea views and good restaurants nearby).

Fodor's Expert Review

This midsize boutique hotel on a quiet street in Sea Point exudes a playful, Ibiza-inspired energy with its mix of modern style—think orchids and stylish men's shirts for sale—and a bright Greek Isle palette of white and turquoise. Staff are friendly and happy to organize day trips and tours. The fresh and bright public spaces, including two pools surrounded by chaises and nice if partially blocked views, encourage socializing and lend a resort ambiance.

You Should Know This part of Sea Point has pros and cons in terms of location. From a pro point of view, you are a short walk from the promenade and lovely sea-view walks, as well as being surrounded by some good bars and restaurants. From the cons, some guests have been surprised to find that all of Cape Town's 'big hitter' tourist draws are an Uber or drive away - but almost all are pretty short drives.

Room

Rooms come in neutral tones of white, silver, or taupe, and are mostly airy and bright, almost all with some kind of private deck or patio area, and most with at least a partial mountain or sea view.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are clean and spacious, perhaps in need of a little facelift, but there are some nice touches like scented candles provided.

Lobby

Reception is stylish and the staff are welcoming. Porters will help carry your luggage across the pool deck to the rooms.

Tip The hotel is gay-friendly.

Pool

The hotel's two-tier pool (plus jacuzzi) is attractive day and night, with loungers by day and then cool blue lighting as night starts to fall and guests sip cocktails by the water.

Spa

The G-Spa offers fantastic massages, and all of its treatments are available for couples.

Tip If you're a yoga fan, book the sunrise yoga session which takes place across Cape Town. A memorable experience.

Gym

There's no on-site gym, but the hotel has a partnership with a nearby fitness center.

Dining

Breakfast provides a hearty start to the day - a varied buffet and an a la carte menu, running the full gamut from English breakfast to Belgian waffles. It's always included in the room rate. The G-Kitchen also serves a light lunch on the sun terrace or pool deck and a wide-ranging dinner, either on the terrace or inside by the fire (in winter).

Drinking

Guests are also welcome to sample any of the hotel's extensive wine-list options (and other drinks) by the pool, on the terrace or in the restaurant.
