Fodor's Expert Review Waterfront Resort Lake Kivu
Gisenyi, Western Province, Rwanda
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
This intimate inn on the shores of Lake Kivu is well worth the hour drive from Volcanoes National Park for a post–gorilla trek chill-out; the gentle shush of waves and the chants of local fisherman can be heard from the botanical-garden-worthy grounds. The lobby's ivy-wrapped stone arches frame the lake's shimmering surface, while the property's private beach and tiki-hut lawn tables offer a perfect perch for drying off after a leisurely swim. The immense rooms feature plush beds with down pillows and French doors that open onto shoreline views; animal-hair rungs and decorative gourds add a traditional flourish.
Upgrade to the lakeshore bungalows to enjoy more space, uninterrupted views, and an open-sky shower.
