Customs and Duties

Visas for Oman are available on arrival. Clearing immigration and customs should not take more than 30 minutes. However, Thursday nights can be extremely busy, and this can extend your transit time by an hour or more. You are allowed to bring in up to 2 liters of alcohol, but drugs (other than prescriptions with your name clearly written on the label) are strictly prohibited. Being caught with illegal drugs will land you in jail immediately. Over-the-counter medicines can even raise eyebrows, but if they are in a clearly labled, new bottle, they are waved through. When it comes to non-narcotic pain medications, if the officers have a doubt about them, they will confiscate them, but you will not be held accountable for possessing them. Printed or pornography or explicit videos are also strictly prohibited.
