Fodor's Expert Review Erongo Wilderness Lodge

Swakopmund, Erongo, Namibia

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Discover an absolute closeness to nature at this tranquil lodge completely surrounded by colossal granite boulders. Hugging the Erongo Mountain Range in a 200,000-hectare (500,000-acre) conservancy, the tented chalets staggered among the boulders glow in the afternoon sun. With perfectly angled sunset-view decks, stone stairways, and unique indoor/outdoor bathrooms, the lodge makes a sublimely peaceful retreat. Have dinner under the stars, or relax next to the fireplace and enjoy a decadent dessert. Wake up early to go for the three-hour nature walk with one of the fantastic guides and climb to the top of the biggest boulder to enjoy the true beauty of the area. Around the lodge you may spot the rosy-faced lovebirds and Damara dik-diks that visit the waterhole.

This lodge is a great option as a stopover between Windhoek and Swakopmund but stay two nights to really enjoy the surroundings.
