Festivals

Agadir and Essaouira are music hot spots, so it is no surprise that both cities host popular music festivals. Held in July, Agadir's Festival Timitar celebrates native Berber music, while Essaouira's world-famous Gnaoua and World Music Festival, held each June, hosts international musicians as well as native ones. Various towns around the Anti-Atlas have developed festivals to celebrate aspects of local culture, including in Taroudant (focusing on traditional music every June); Tafraoute (celebrating the almond blossom in February and local music and culture in August); and Tiznit (honoring the traditional silversmiths in August).
