Mohammedia

A short drive from Casablanca, Mohammedia and the surrounding area has a long stretch of pretty bays, which draws droves of sunseekers during the summer. It was originally a port town and currently has a delightful harbor and yacht club plus a good choice of fish restaurants, as well as a food market. Charming wooden beach houses line the waterfront. North of town, the coast is good for swimmers, surfers, and sunbathers alike, although currents here can be dangerous.

On Saturday, there is a souk at Al Alia (a southeastern district of Mohammedia) that sells everything from confit camel meat to dentist chairs. It’s a grand event for locals, and you can see donkeys, horses, and walkers flocking toward it for miles.
