Fodor's Expert Review Riad Marhaba

Rue Açam, Rabat, Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, Morocco

This comfortable, well-restored spot has a welcoming atmosphere and attractive rooms that retain their medina-esque architectual features. The furnishings and finishes evoke the past as well (note the pretty zellij tiling and traditional tadelakt on the bathroom walls). The rooftop terrace is a fantastic place to linger over breakfast or a cup of mint tea; you can also order lunch or dinner made with ingredients that come straight from the markets.

PROS

  • friendly atmosphere
  • comfortable rooms with a local look
  • rooftop terrace with great views

CONS

  • a little tricky to find
  • as with all medina houses, rooms can be somewhat dark
  • medinas are pedestrianized, so arrange a porter if your bags are too heavy
