Marrakesh’s popularity as a golfing destination is booming and there are now more than 20 golf courses in and around town, with even more luxury resorts under construction.

Al Maaden Golf Resort. This 18-hole, Kyle Phillips–designed course opened in 2010 with square bunkers, geometric water features, and fairways between the resort villas. Along the way admire the huge, modern, outdoor sculpture park, then wind down at the clubhouse. Golf Amelkis Club. The 27-hole Golf Amelkis Club, designed by Cabell B. Robison, offers plenty of challenges with water features and bunkers. Unwind afterward with a drink at the bar in the kasbah-style clubhouse with the Atlas Mountains as a backdrop. Royal Golf Club. The long-established Royal Golf Club is one of the oldest in Morocco, founded in 1933. It is a tree-filled haven, with the original 18-hole course and another more challenging 9-hole Menara course added in 2007. The casual Club House restaurant is open to nongolfers and has a delightful shaded terrace for a light and inexpensive lunch.
