Fodor's Expert Review Dar Rhizlane

Rue Jnane el Harti, Marrakesh, Marrakesh-Safi, Morocco

Tucked into the residential neighborhood of Hivernage, Dar Rhizlane is a luxury boutique hotel that was designed to look like the capacious villas built during the French protectorate in the 1920s. It's a refreshing change from the large modern hotels that have taken over the area. The entrance is grand, with decorative fountains and lily ponds and swathes of honeysuckle and bougainvillea cascading down the building's limestone ocher facade. Each room or suite features a private veranda or garden space, some of which feature stunning hand-cut wooden moucharabia trellis-work and key-hole windows. In a separate villa at the rear of the garden, the enormous White Suite fuses contemporary aesthetics with traditional Moroccan finishes, which is evident in the hand-cut plaster stucco fireplaces, woven fabrics, Beni Ouirane rugs, and white zellij tiled floors. There's a landscaped garden with a terrace, a pergola and comfy lounge, fine-dining in its renowned Moroccan restaurant, a bar, and a swimming pool and spa.
