Safety
The High Atlas is generally very safe and Berbers have a treasured code of hospitality, but travelers should still take precautions. Rural sentiments are quite different from urban ones, so women should dress more conservatively than in larger cities. The biggest safety concern is, of course, for trekkers. You can hike on your own, but you will be safer and learn much more about the local environment if you take a guide. You should not attempt to summit Toubkal or any of the other major summits on your own; those are best done with a large group or with a trained guide.
